Why Sealing Matters Before Painting
Bare plaster and putty are porous. Paint applied directly to them soaks in unevenly — heavily in some areas, barely at all in others. The visible result is patchy colour, inconsistent sheen, and a wall that needs three or four coats to look acceptable instead of two.
A sealer solves this by closing off the surface. Once sealed, the wall accepts paint uniformly across its whole area, so the first topcoat does the work it is supposed to do rather than disappearing into the substrate. Most painters find that sealing properly costs less overall than the extra emulsion needed to compensate for skipping it — sealer is significantly cheaper per litre than finish paint.
Adhesion improves too. A sealed, stabilised surface gives the topcoat something consistent to bond to, which directly affects how long the paint job lasts before showing wear or flaking.

Surface Preparation & Application
Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, loose material, and flaking paint. New plaster must be fully cured before sealing — painting over green plaster causes adhesion failure regardless of what products are used above it.
Where the wall has been puttied, sand smooth and remove all sanding dust before sealing. Dust is the most common reason sealers fail to bond properly, and it is entirely avoidable — wipe down thoroughly rather than just brushing off.
Fill cracks and surface defects before sealing. For walls needing smoothing rather than just sealing, apply Gobi’s Sona Lapi wall putty first, allow it to dry completely, and sand level.
Stir thoroughly before use. Apply by brush, roller, or spray, thinning with clean water as directed on the pack. One coat is normally sufficient; highly absorbent surfaces may benefit from a second. Allow to dry fully before applying the topcoat. Clean equipment with water immediately after use.
