Surface Preparation & Application
Exterior preparation decides how long the finish lasts. The surface must be clean, dry, fully cured, and free from dust, loose material, and flaking paint. New plaster and render must cure fully before painting.
Test for chalking by rubbing the wall with a dry hand. If it leaves powder, keep brushing down, because a coating cannot hold material that has already detached. Treat any algae or fungal growth before painting, since painting over it only hides it for a season.
