Surface Preparation & Application
Berger says it is essential that the surface is completely dry and free from grease, dirt, and dust before application. Prepare it with sandpaper or a scraper, and remove any defective or poorly adhering material by rubbing with a suitable abrasive paper or stiff brush.
Berger recommends applying Elegance Ultraseal Interior Primer before the putty. Berger also says a coat of primer is advised after the putty has been applied. Following that order gives the paint a sealed base.
Berger gives a drying time of about two hours, with finishing paint after 16 hours. Follow the coat count and application method on the pack.
Common Mistakes With Interior Putty
The most common mistake is skipping the primer. Berger recommends the Ultraseal primer before the putty and a coat of primer after it, so leaving either out can leave the finish uneven.
Applying putty to a surface that is still dusty or greasy is another. Berger says the surface must be completely dry and free from grease, dirt, and dust, so clean it before you start.
Painting too soon is a third mistake. Berger gives 16 hours before finishing paint, so keep to that time. Rushing the next coat can trap moisture and leave patches.
