Surface Preparation & Application
Berger states it is essential that the surface is dry and free from grease and dust before applying Pure Seal. Remove all defective or poorly adhering material by rubbing with a suitable abrasive paper or stiff brush. Fill cracks and uneven areas before priming.

Common Mistakes With Exterior Primers
The most common mistake is priming a damp wall. Berger’s guidance is that the surface must be dry, so wait for dry weather and check for seepage before you start. If damp is rising or leaking through the wall, treat the cause first.
Leaving loose material on the wall is another. Flaking paint, dust, and grease stop the primer from bonding, and the problem carries through every coat above it. Moving on to putty or paint before the primer has dried is also common. Berger gives 2 to 3 hours, so stay inside that.
