Surface Preparation & Application
Berger states that surfaces should be clean, dry, and free from dust, dirt, and loose paint. New surfaces should be sandpapered and brushed off with a bristle brush. Berger then recommends two coats of Berger Plastron Wall Primer Sealer or Berger Water Based Primer before the emulsion. Our team can advise which primer suits your wall.
Berger’s thinning guidance is to mix 3 to 4 litres of water into one gallon of paint before use, with more water allowed for the last coat to help it go on smoothly. Common Mistakes With Matt Emulsion
The most common mistake is skipping the primer to save time. Berger recommends two primer coats on prepared surfaces, and leaving them out can leave the colour patchy and uneven.
Thinning by guesswork is another. Too little water makes the paint drag, and too much weakens the coat, so measure it. Recoating too soon is also common, especially in rainy or cold weather when Berger notes drying takes longer. Work wall by wall and keep a wet edge so you avoid visible joins.
Care and Cleaning
Let the paint cure fully before cleaning it. Berger describes the finish as easily washable, but wipe gently all the same. Use a soft damp cloth or sponge, avoid abrasive pads and harsh chemicals, and deal with marks early. Berger advises keeping the container tightly closed and upright after use, protected from extreme heat or cold. Label leftover paint with colour and date for touch-ups.
