Why Premium Topcoats Need Premium Preparation
There is a common and expensive mistake in high-specification painting: spending heavily on the finish coat and economising on what goes under it.
A paint system performs to the standard of its weakest layer. A premium emulsion applied over an inadequate sealer will show the same patchy absorption, uneven sheen, and adhesion problems as a budget emulsion would — because those failures originate at the substrate, not in the topcoat. The money spent on the finish is simply wasted.
Alkyd-based sealers penetrate more deeply than water-based ones, reaching into porous and friable surfaces to bind them from within. On the varied substrates a premium project typically involves — plaster, gypsum ceilings, concrete, timber — this depth of penetration produces a more uniformly stabilised base than a surface-level seal can.
Its broad compatibility is practically valuable too. A single sealer covering masonry, wood, and gypsum simplifies specification on projects where several substrates meet in the same room, and avoids visible differences in finish where one material adjoins another.

Surface Preparation & Application
Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, loose material, and flaking paint. Brush down chalky surfaces thoroughly before sealing — the sealer binds what remains attached, but cannot hold material that has already detached.
New plaster must be fully cured before sealing. Cement substrates release alkalinity during cure, and alkyd products applied too early are vulnerable to saponification, which destroys the film from beneath. This is the most common cause of preparation failure on new construction in Karachi.
Where the wall has been puttied, sand smooth and remove all sanding dust. Wipe down rather than brushing off — on a premium job, residual dust under the sealer will show in the finished surface.
For walls needing filling as well as sealing, apply Gobi’s Gold Wall Putty first, allow to dry fully, and sand level.
Ensure adequate ventilation during application. Stir thoroughly before use, then apply by brush, roller, or spray, thinning with the appropriate solvent as directed on the pack. One coat is normally sufficient; highly absorbent surfaces may need a second. Allow to dry fully before topcoating. Clean equipment with the recommended solvent immediately after use.
