Why an Alkyd Matt Coating
Most matt finishes are water-based emulsions, and they work well on ordinary walls. Where they struggle is in kitchens and bathrooms — rooms with sustained humidity, steam, splashing, and a need for frequent wiping down.
Alkyd chemistry changes the equation. The resin cures by oxidation into a harder, tighter film than an emulsion forms, which means better moisture resistance and a surface that tolerates repeated cleaning without burnishing into shiny patches. That is precisely what a kitchen wall or a bathroom surface demands.
The matting agents in this formulation deliver that durability without the high gloss traditionally associated with alkyd paints. Older kitchens across Karachi were finished in gloss enamel for exactly these practical reasons, and the result was serviceable but visually stark. Surface Preparation & Application
Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, loose material, and flaking paint. Kitchen surfaces need particular attention — accumulated cooking grease is invisible but will prevent adhesion entirely. Degrease thoroughly with an appropriate cleaner and rinse before painting.
On walls: fill cracks and defects, sand smooth, and seal porous surfaces before coating. Gobi’s Gold Wall Sealer is the matching product within the series.
On metal: remove rust and loose material back to sound metal, degrease, and apply a rust-inhibiting primer first — Gobi’s Gold Red Oxide Primer is the premium option. Alkyd coatings over unprimed steel fail from corrosion beneath.
On wood: sand along the grain, remove dust, fill defects, and apply Gobi’s Gold Undercoat to seal the timber and provide an even base.
Stir thoroughly before use. Apply by brush or spray, thinning with the appropriate solvent as directed on the pack. Work in thin, even coats — thick application sags on vertical surfaces and extends curing time. Two coats give the best durability and colour uniformity. Allow full drying between coats; alkyd coatings cure by oxidation and need longer than water-based products. Ensure adequate ventilation during application and clean equipment with the recommended solvent.
