Surface Preparation & Application
Preparation determines everything on metal. A primer applied over rust simply seals the corrosion in and allows it to continue working underneath — the coating will fail, and the failure will be traced back to this step every time.
Remove all rust, mill scale, and loose material back to sound, bright metal using wire brushing, scraping, or mechanical abrasion. On heavily corroded steel, mechanical preparation is essential — chemical rust converters are a compromise, not an equivalent.
Degrease thoroughly. Steel arrives from fabricators carrying oil and cutting residue, and handled metal picks up grease from hands. Primer will not bond through either. Wipe down with an appropriate solvent and allow to dry completely.
Prime as soon as possible after preparation. Freshly cleaned steel begins oxidising within hours in Karachi’s humidity — leaving prepared metal overnight before priming undoes much of the work.
Stir thoroughly before use. Apply by brush or spray, thinning with the appropriate solvent as directed on the pack. Work primer well into welds, joints, corners, and edges — these are where corrosion starts, and where brush application beats spray for reaching properly. Two coats give better protection on exterior and exposed metalwork. Allow full drying before topcoating. Clean equipment with the recommended solvent immediately after use.
