Surface Preparation & Application
The surface should be clean, dry, and free from all loose material including efflorescence and old flaking paint. Brush down chalky surfaces thoroughly before sealing — the sealer binds what remains attached, but cannot hold material that has already detached.
New plaster must cure fully before sealing. Cement substrates release alkalinity as they cure, and alkyd products applied too early are vulnerable to saponification, which breaks the film down from underneath. This is the most common cause of primer failure on new construction in Karachi.
